Hair styling can be as wide as make-up or fashion. You can change your look by wearing different hairstyles, according to your mood or occasion. Mid-length hair is especially easy to handle.
Japanese fashionable girls are quite keen on changing their hair, as part of fashion.
You only need 3 elements to have this freedom:
- appropriate tools
- right styling products
- a few techniques with professional tips
In the video below I am showing 4 different looks created by only simple hair drying techniques and the use of products.
Here is what I used:
As I said in the video, I recommend to always use a non rinse-off treatment before drying the hair, in order to protect them from the heat of the dryer. You can use an oil, a mist or a cream depending on your hair condition and type. Never apply on the roots, but from mid lengths to the ends. I use an oil from Kerastase called “Huile Sublime” but it has a different name depending on the country. You may recognise the bottle though.
Now the details of the 4 looks:
1. Casual shiny dolly curls (wearable everyday)
It’s a style with straight hair that ends in curls, obtained by a drying technique where you twist the hair around your finger.
Suitable for permed hair or naturally curly hair with weak curls.

I used a cream wax from LEBEL called “Move Emulsion”. It belongs to the series TRIE of 11 strengths going from no hold at all to very strong hold. It has a really nice slightly fruity fragrance. The “Move Emulsion” has a medium to low hold and leaves the hair soft and non greasy while it gives movements and definition to the curls.

2. Glamorous curly hair
It’s a style with big curls going from roots to tips, created by using a diffuser, ideal to have beautiful and enhanced curls without frizz.
Adapted to permed hair or naturally curly hair.

I used before drying TechniArt Dual Stylers from L’Oreal Professionnel, Bouncy & Tender. I know it’s not Japanese! But this product has the singularity of having 2 chambers combining a curls amplifying gel and a smoothing cream. The result is defined curls with a soft touch, I like it a lot.
3. Effortless airy lob
It’s a bevelled long bob style with volume and movements, created thanks to velcro rollers.
In Japan, “Effortless” is the key word for this fall/winter. However the Japanese “effortless” is just the result of what it looks like and it actually requires a LOT of efforts to get there!!
BUT the velcro rollers, may really be the effortless way to gain volume where it’s lacking, it’s so easy to use and efficient.

I used “Powder Shake” from Shiseido Professional, from the series Stage Works. It’s a spray that creates volume and movements without freezing the hair, so you can always put your hands in your hair during the day. The touch is a bit powdery like it’s name says, which gives a mat, quite sophisticated look. It smells delicious too.

4. Natural messy curls
It’s the easiest style with natural loose curls relying on only a styling mousse.
It’s suitable to permed hair or naturally curly hair.

The star product is Nigelle High Clutch Fizz foam from MILBON which has the particularity of being applied on dry hair to revive the curls. Unlike the other mousses, this one leaves the hair soft with movements and doesn’t harden the curls.
