Our skin needs particular protection in winter, especially in Japan as winter is very dry.
Not only our face suffers from dryness, but our lips, our hands,…pretty much our whole body!
And you know how the lack of moisture can lead the skin to premature ageing.
I use body moisturizers all year long but in winter, I double the dose, use the richest creams or oils instead of lighter lotions that I use in summer.
Here is the winter body care routine that I have been following lately.
To prevent flaky skin, even in winter I use once per week an exfoliater. It helps to remove all the dead skin. The product that I have repeatedly purchased to maintain my skin smooth is this:
House of Rose, Oh! Baby
This fragrance, color additives, mineral oil free body smoother contains scrubs made from natural hot spring water that has some exfoliating properties. Some similar products have too harsh scrubs that destroy the natural protective barrier leaving the skin even dryer. Thing that never happens with this product; it’s one of the reasons why I keep on buying it repeatedly 🙂 The scrub once rubbed on the body transforms into a watery texture and the skin is left smooth and soft after the use. Not surprising it got even an best cosmetics award in the past!
By the way, from the same brand, the winter limited body cream Bee Honey Ettoh Cream is one of the popular body care every year. It contains honey and royal jelly and provides a rich nourishment to the skin.
So lately I have been using the body creams from the two brands that I presented to you in my previous post Marks&Web and Mama Butter.
The two products are quite similar in texture: they have a good spreadability and penetrate quite fast the skin. The delicious natural aromatic fragrance has a true healing effect to the mind, although it’s quite subtle (it’s very rare to find Japanese products with a strong and characteristic fragrance).

Herbal Body Cream -Relax-
Similar to the bath salt I presented before, this body cream includes macadamia nuts oil and squalene for moisture.
The geranium and chamomile fragrance gives a sensorial stimulus. In the same family, the version “Refresh” and “Wake-up” have different fragrances to fit the mood.
Although it’s called a lotion, as you can see on the picture the texture is pretty thick like a cream.
Same as the other products of the brand, it is paraben, mineral oil, chemical fragrance and colorants free. The body lotion contains 12% of natural shea butter and the fragrance is from natural wild rose. As soon as it penetrates the skin, the surface is left not sticky but well moisturized.
But another solution that is quite effective for moisturization with my recent favorite product is this:
Muji has a range of natural oils with different usages and effects.
The jojoba oil is made in Japan and is fragrance and colorants free.
I hope you find tips here to survive the winter!
