As you may have guessed from my previous posts about the Japanese hot spring, the culture of bathing is quite important in Japan. Although young people living on their own, tend to just shower, in families, it is still the tradition to fill the bathtub for the whole family in the evening.
Bathing in Japan, beyong a simple hygiene act, is considered as a real relaxation and healing time for body and mind to close the day.
Especially in winter, keeping warm is key, both for our health and beauty. There is nothing like a soak in a steamy bath in the evening to keep warm and rejuvenate our body.
In Japan, we find a lot of bath & beauty supplies to make this precious bath time, a real pleasure and beauty effective. It’s a good opportunity for me to present you a few Japanese natural oriented brands.
In Japan, you can find many one time use bath add-ins which give you the chance to try the different types and efficiencies according to your mood, your body and spirit status.
Herbal Bath Essence
Marks & Web is a Japanese brand having a wide range of daily products with a minimalist design, based on the concept of safe and quality products to fit each one’s mood and desire for each moment in life.
Their Herbal Bath Essence contains macadamia oil and squalene for moisture, which is especially needed in winter. The essence, when mixed with water gives a deliciously scented milky bath. The flavors are floral, fruity or herbal to enhance relaxation (geranium & chamomile), refreshment (mandarin & lavender) or awakening (rosemary & peppermint)
Mama Butter originally created products to be used by moms and babies; safe and gentle products using as the main ingredient the shea butter. The products are silicon, paraben, fragrance, colorants, mineral oil, and chemical surfactants free.
The Bath powder contains 5% of natural shea butter for moisture and also baking soda (bicarbonate sodium) that is known to sooth irritated skin. The moisturising effect is strong; the look at the bathtub after the bath shows it clearly!
Oisesan is a Japanese brand inspired by the Ise Shrine, the most sacred Shinto shrine. Oisesan products aim to purify the body and mind and uses high quality natural ingredients from Japan.
The Oisesan bath bomb is a beauty blend of Japan top quality honey and natural essential oils such as geranium, grapefruit, orange and bergamot to detox the body and clear the spirit. However the fragrance stays very subtle. the biggest surprise is to see how the water is transformed, once the bomb solved, into such a soft and silky texture, a real pleasure on the skin.
Other products in my shopping this time, bring as much fun as the mentioned above ones and we may also expect beauty effects: it is a bit early but shops start filling with seasonal products with the theme of cherry blossom to bring joy and pleasure.
Some others contain the fruit yuzu, now internationally renown for its particular fragrance. In fact Yuzu has been traditionally used for bath in Japan in winter. Yuzu has a strong warming up effect to help us boost our immune system and preventing getting sick in winter, and beauty effect for the skin thanks to its vitamins and citric acid.
Recently the hydrogen water has been drawing a lot of attention for being a strong antioxidant, therefore effective for beauty and anti-ageing. We find hydrogen water in various products now, including bath supplies.
Nothing new, but since the Japanese hot springs are famous for its relaxation and beautifying effects, we find many bath powders containing the hot spring minerals to reproduce the hot spring at home!
A warm relaxing bath in the evening is my favorite ritual that I like to repeat every single day in winter. With all the beauty bath supplies, it’s a real sensorial experience, different every day but always as luxurious. And what else can we expect when the beauty effect comes in pair with relaxation!?
Happy winter bath time to all!
