Many articles have been written on the web that guide you through the different places to go and buy Japanese cosmetics in Japan. Of course you could go to a recommended place and buy all you are looking for but here I want to give some advice on where to buy what cosmetics for the best value for money. Here is your perfect shopping guide for Tokyo!
1. Department stores
5. Convenience stores
Convenience stores such as Family Mart, Seven Eleven or Lawson, are open 24/7. As its name indicates it’s convenient since you can find everything you may suddenly need. It’s not a place where you plan to go but where you go spontaneously because you forgot to buy something, or because you need something due to unexpected happenings. Of course cosmetics are part of it. You can find some popular skincare and makeup products but my advice is more to buy the mini sizes of cosmetic products and toiletries super easy to carry: for example you find a pack of 5 makeup removal sheets, skincare lotion in a small bottle for 7 days, hair wax in a tiny jar or a miniature size of toothpaste. It’s really convenient to have these for your next weekend trip or 1 week vacation somewhere, unless you are ok to carry your daily 100ml moisturizers in a glass bottle and your 1L mouthwash!
6. 100 yen shop
If you haven’t found your favorite cosmetics brands that your are used to use in the convenience stores, here is where you can go.
Therefore you can also find cosmetics from the face cleanser to the nail polish. However I DON’T recommend you to buy these ( I have never tried and I wouldn’t…) No, but what I want to let you know is that you can find empty plastic jars and containers that are very handy to have for your vacations and business trips to carry your portions of favorite shampoo, lotion, cream, etc. Especially if you want to travel light and with only a cabin suitcase, you can create your toiletries and beauty pack with these containers. So convenient!
I hope you found new information here and that you know where to go and what to buy!
Happy shopping in Tokyo!
