FAQ about lady face shave
-
Does shaving make hair grow back thicker?
No. It is scientifically proven that this belief is mistaken. Here are some excerpts from British Medical Journal:
Strong scientific evidence disproves these claims. As early as 1928, a clinical trial showed that shaving had no effect on hair growth. More recent studies confirm that shaving does not affect the thickness or rate of hair regrowth. In addition, shaving removes the dead portion of hair, not the living section lying below the skin’s surface, so it is unlikely to affect the rate or type of growth.
Why are so many people, including me until now, led to believe that it would grow thicker? It’s because when you shave, the hair is cut blunt in the middle. When it grows back, as the cut middle part is coarser than the tapered tip of the hair, it creates an impression it’s growing thicker. It’s just a perception.

Who can’t or shouldn’t shave their face?
– Women who are severely breaking out can be refused by the salon. Indeed, the use of razor on the pimples may infect them. If you have only a few pimples that can be avoided by the barber, it’s not a problem.
– Similarly, women with atopic skin should also avoid face shave.
– Also if you plan to have a strong sun exposure in the following days, such as vacation on a beach resort, you should avoid shaving, since after the shave, the skin is more sensitive to UVs. You should let 2 to 3 days after the shave before being exposed to sun. Of course, don’t forget your sunscreen!!

How often should you get the face shaved?
There is no rule as body hair growth cycle is not determined. It’s unnecessary to have it done every week. At Azabu Yamamoto, as face shave removes not only facial hair but also dead skin, they advice you to do it following the skin cell renewal cycle which is 28 days.
