We often hear about Rice Force, the Japanese skincare brand, popular among models and makeup artists all around the world. It’s said to have a high moisturizing effect and being popular for its gentleness to even sensitive skin.
It’s been also professionally used in some high-end beauty salons in Japan and abroad, such as Westin Resort & Spa in Hawaii or in established beauty salons in Europe.
I recently had the opportunity to try their kit for first-timers. So here is my review!
How Rice Force was born
First of all, a little bit of background to understand this brand;
It all started in a Sake brewery. After many years of research focusing in exploiting the Japanese traditional fermenting technology, researchers succeeded to create their active ingredient, Rice Power extract no. 11, with an unique ability to keep the moisture inside the skin and improve the skin self moisturizing power.
So Rice Force is made of rice, the most familiar and dearest element for Japanese people, loved for its gentleness to skin and many other brands, as famous as SK-II, use it (sake, made from rice) as their primary ingredient.
The first product of Rice Force was a body cream for people with atopic skin. As its popularity raised, the company extended this technology into daily skincare for the face.
What’s Rice Power extract no. 11?
Rice Power extract no. 11 is made from the brand’s own technology using rice fermentation.
Instead of moisturizing just the surface of the skin, thanks to Rice Power extract no. 11, Rice Force products penetrate deep inside the outer layer of the skin through the very small particles.
Rice Power extract no. 11, once inside the skin, has also the ability to retain the moisture much longer than other products, which allows to keep the skin moisturized a long time after application.
Rice force trial kit
The trial kit includes cute miniature bottles and jar of the Rice Force basic line up lotion, essence and cream for 10 days and it only costs 900 yen. It can be ordered online and delivered anywhere in Japan.
In Japan, we often find this kind of starter kits for cosmetics, which is really perfect to discover a new brand and try products for a minimum cost, instead of investing at once in something you don’t even know if you are going to like it.
It comes with leaflets about the products and instructions of usage.
The products included follow the traditional Japanese skincare routine, as it starts with a lotion to hydrate, an essence to fit special needs and a cream to nourish and lock the lotion and essence inside the skin:
- Deep Moisture Lotion: “moisturize”
High penetration into the skin and moisturizes the skin from deep inside.
- Deep Moisture Essence: enhance
Lifts the skin and makes it plumpy.
- Deep Moisture Cream: protect
Locks the previous elements inside the skin and protects it.
The three products are fragrance and colorants free and have a mildly acidic pH to best suit the skin natural pH. In addition, the cream is alcohol free.
Deep Moisture Lotion
It’s very fluid and translucent. It feels like water; only the very light viscosity makes it slightly richer than water but as soon as you apply it on the skin, it is absorbed. We feel that it’s not only for the surface of the skin and that it penetrates. The finish is very natural unlike most of recent lotions which leaves the skin a bit sticky. Despite the very natural finish, The skin doesn’t feel tense, we clearly feel it’s doing it’s hydrating job.
Deep Moisture Essence
The essence is the thickest of all and looks like a gel. The instruction advises a quantity, as little as a pearl size, however it’s very easy to spread so it seems to be enough. Immediately after the application, the skin feels replumped and soft.
Deep Moisture Cream
The cream is more like a white emulsion, rather liquid. They advise a ridiculous amount as tiny as a bean. I’d rather use more generously. It’s very light on the skin and feels fresh. It’s moisturizing and doesn’t dry out during the day.
All three products were very gentle to my sensitive skin. The finish is very natural: not too rich, sticky, oily or glittery like so many products, which makes us believe the products penetrate well the skin.
It feels like it’s made to bring the skin back to its natural state: a healthy and well hydrated skin, which is already good enough but if you are looking for more anti-aging efficacies such as lifting or brightening, you may feel it’s not enough.
So I would buy and use the big size for a daily use and I do believe in skincare benefit of rice as ingredient but I’d complete it with other serums for additional values.
